Getting started
- Do I need to edit my theme?
- Not on an Online Store 2.0 theme. The subscription widget is an app block you place on your product template in the theme editor.
- Does it work with my existing checkout?
- Yes. Subscriptions check out through Shopify's own checkout — there is no separate checkout to maintain.
- Can I try it before paying?
- Every plan has a 14-day free trial. Shopify enforces it, so you are not charged until it ends.
Payments and billing
- Do you store my customers' card details?
- No. Payment methods are vaulted by Shopify. The app asks Shopify to bill a subscription and never receives a card number.
- What happens when a renewal payment fails?
- It is retried on a schedule, and the customer is sent an email to update their payment method. Renewals where the bank asks the customer to authenticate are recorded separately.
- Can subscriptions be in different currencies?
- Yes. Each subscription keeps the currency the customer checked out in.
- How am I billed for the app?
- Through Shopify, on your regular Shopify invoice, on a 30-day cycle. There is no percentage of your revenue.
Subscribers
- How do subscribers manage their subscription?
- In a portal inside their Shopify customer account — no separate password. They can skip, pause, swap, change address, add to the next order or cancel.
- Can subscribers cancel easily?
- Yes. Cancel is always findable. Skip and pause are offered first, because many people clicking cancel want a break rather than an exit.
- Can the portal be in other languages?
- Yes. You can translate the portal's wording, including your own cancellation-flow copy, per language.
Switching and leaving
- Can I move from another subscription app?
- Yes. Whether subscribers need to do anything depends on whether your current app uses native Shopify contracts. We'll tell you which before anything moves.
- What happens to my subscriptions if I uninstall?
- Subscription contracts are Shopify objects in your store, so they stay there. Our copy of your data is deleted within 48 hours of uninstalling.
Data and security
- Where is my data stored?
- In the European Union, on encrypted storage, with every connection encrypted in transit.
- Who can see my subscribers' details?
- You, and the subscriber themselves. Every time anyone reads a subscriber's details it is recorded in an append-only audit log.
